The Malaysian singer-songwriter debuted the music video for “Fool 4 U,” one of her most recent singles, on September 3. The music video was made by Yuna’s husband, director Adam Sinclair, and has a 90s feel.
Yuna shared on Instagram how much she “loves” the R&B and neo-soul song, which was produced by Itai Shapiro and Pierre Jameson and was filmed in Malaysia, where she is from. “It’s so moody so cozy and so 90’s. I recommend you listen to this EP while you’re going on a night drive.”
At the young age of 19, Yuna began her career by simply recording music in her bedroom and posting it online. She entered the Malaysian music scene quickly after finishing law school, gaining fans from the urban culture and the mass market with her English singles. All the while, she remained independent and was a signee of her own record company, Yuna Room Records (yrr), which she founded when she was 20 years old.
She started her own label back in Malaysia after being discovered by US label Indie Pop Records as she developed professionally. After ten years in the business, her music evolved through Pop alternative sounds and gradually incorporated R&B.
She launched her international career in the U.S. while working with artists like Pharrell Williams, David Foster, and Usher. She is still developing in the American music industry and producing new music and content. Yuna, who was raised primarily in Kuala Lumpur after being born in Kedah, Malaysia, now divides her time between Malaysia and Los Angeles (where she is based).
